When You Have Negative People In Your Life...

This weekend was a roadblock for me.
I've come to terms that I value people's opinions. I think hearing what other people have to say is just as important as your own opinion. But I somehow let that become the only thing that mattered.
As a young influencer still in college, I'm going to explain that it is difficult to maintain that status amongst other college students who "just don't get it." It might seem triumphant to be walking around campus with people recognizing you, but you're missing the full picture.

There are always those people. The negative ones, I mean.

They don't understand what I do, that's fine. They don't know what I do, that's fine. They don't care what I do, that's fine too. You know that saying? "You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there's still going to be somebody who hates peaches." Exactly.
But when you put a lot of hard work into something and get a sense of unappreciation, it's tough. I know it goes without saying that I'm supposed to develop a thick skin for these sorts of things, but I'm also allowed to have a bad day.

I realized that I started doing what I do... for me. Not for anyone else, not to please anyone else. I did it for me. So I started questioning myself: why am I going to let the people that don't appreciate what I do, care what I do, don't understand what I do and why I do it... get under my skin?
In all honesty, it doesn't matter.

Maybe down the road, they'll realize it. Maybe not.
But the point is, their opinion should not affect me in any way. Yes, it's good to know that there are haters. It means you're doing something right... right? If anything, I don't let negative people get to me because it motivates me to do better and be better.
You're going to find someone who appreciates what you do. Period. It might be tomorrow, it might be in a couple of years. You don't know that. But no matter what, it's still worth the wait.

Being humble in this situation is so important. Don't let people get to you, don't let it change your ego because oh, it will. It's about being strong enough to overcome the bad and find enough solace to
let. them. go.

If anyone else is in the same boat, by all means... shoot me an email. I'd love to hear from you!

Effort is a reflection of interest and you can't force them to see that you're worth it.
