7 Types of Outfits I Pack For Summer Travels

Now that things are opening back up for the summer, I’ve been itching to travel more. I’m grateful to have been able to spend more time in New York City and I have a deeper level of appreciation for every new destination I’ve had the pleasure of visiting — local or not. I recently traveled to Cancun, Mexico a few weeks ago and thought it’d be a great idea to share what I typically pack when I’m traveling somewhere for the summer.

  1. GOING OUT OUTFIT

Whenever I’m packing, I like to have a good idea of what my itinerary will look like. That helps with planning out outfits for the trip. Depending on the destination, I’ll pack at least one ‘going out outfit.’ This obviously varies place to place, but for somewhere like Mexico, I wanted to for a light summery style. I typically gravitate towards an all-black outfit, but every once in awhile, I’ll wear some color.

For me, the key to any ‘going out outfit’ is comfort and style. I don’t want to wear something that is too tight, too short, or too revealing because then that takes away how I’m feeling about the people I’m spending time with or the environment I’m around. Clothes can actually distract you from enjoying the moment, so I make sure to take that into account when you’re choosing what you’re wearing.

Highly recommend trying on the outfit at home — I like to walk around in it, sit in it, and eat in it to get a feel for the outfit so there aren’t any surprises when wearing it.

2. VACATION DRESS

Wherever I go, I always have at least one *vacation dress.* What does this mean?I refer to a vacation dress as that ‘one dress you’d wear to a nice dinner.’ For Cancun, this dress was it for me. The minute I saw this dress online, I knew I had to have it. Anyone else ever have one of those moments? Where you just KNOW?I wore this dress towards the end of the week to a sunset dinner by the beach. It was such a magical night — 10/10 recommend having a sunset dinner if you’re ever somewhere tropical!

3. ONE-PIECE SWIMSUIT

I used to dislike one-piece swimsuits when I was younger, but now… I’m OBSESSED.This one-piece swimsuit is one of the most flattering ones I’ve come across yet. The straps are versatile and you can tie it in different ways. But not only that, you can adjust how tight or loose you want the waist by adjusting the strap ties.

4. COVER-UP

I have to credit my sister for finding this perfect cover-up last minute before our trip. It fit me just right in length — I’m 5’2” (for reference). Funny story — we were actually looking for a cover-up weeks before our trip but just couldn’t find one that we liked. And then my sister stumbled across this one and it arrived a day before our trip.

5. WORKOUT ATTIRE

Typically, I wear a tank or t-shirt with biker shorts for my workout outfit, but because it was 90 degrees in Mexico, I opted for a sports bra instead. Every vacation I go on, I still make time to workout — whether it’s outside or in a gym, fitness is one of my top priorities. This sports bra is an old one, but these biker shorts are my GO-TO running shorts. I ran my half marathon in these and also just wear them outside for leisure. They also have POCKETS.

6. BIKINI

Whenever I find a bikini that I like, I tend to wear it ALL THE TIME. I was gifted this Revel Rey swimwear last year and it’s been my favorite set. In the summer, I tend to stick to one bikini to solely tan in to avoid uneven tan lines — is anyone else like this?

7. EXCURSION ATTIRE

Are you even surprised my excursion attire is all black? I typically opt for all-black because that’s what I feel most comfortable in. Depending on the location, I’ll dress accordingly. These are the types of outfits that I try to keep simple for the sake of comfort and weather. For this certain excursion, we were touring Chichen Itza (check out the Chichen Itza travel guide here) and I knew there would hardly be any shade. Hence the tube top and hat.
